A Look at Love

The story follows Charleen, a young Coloured woman from a northern Namibia Wharf who rises above hardship through education and dance, only to be drawn into a complex love that challenges her ideas of forgiveness, class, and belonging.

The book is set in familiar Cape Town landscapes, but the characters take a trip through Namibian deserts, experience storms in the Atlantic seas and endure a road trip down the B1 – N7 to Cape Town.

The story explores themes of identity, trauma, and redemption with a lyrical South African voice. Early readers have responded warmly to its emotional depth and vivid local settings.

The narrative also explores other characters lives, such as Anne Spencer-Taylor, Seth’s former fiancée, who struggles with emotional break downs, and her father, Arnold Spencer-Taylor, who seeks revenge on Seth.

Additionally, the story delves into the lives of Brian Carstens, a wealthy dancer who mentors Charleen, and Ernest Young, as they navigate their own journeys of healing and redemption.
